Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham Gaol

Formerly a prison, Kilmainham Gaol now houses a museum on the history of Irish nationalism. An art gallery on the top floor exhibits paintings, sculptures and jewellery. One of the largest unoccupied prisons in Europe, it has been described as the ‘Irish Bastille.’

2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the Irish Easter Rising, so visitors can expect lots of fun and interesting festivals and events on this theme happening throughout the country this year.
