Kylemore Abbey has a long and rich history. Since 1920 when their abbey at Ypres, Belgium was destroyed in WW1 - Kylemore Abbey has been home to a Benedictine order of nuns. Though many parts of Abbey have been restored and can be enjoyed by visitors, the nuns remain in residence there and continue with their daily life of works and prayer, running their farm and making handcrafted products.
Enjoy the natural beauty of Kylemore, with its woodland and lakeshore walks, nature and tree trails, children’s play trail, and its wonderful 6 acre Victorian walled garden - while you bask in its peace and sense of spiritual tranquility. The restaurant and tea house at Kylemore offers traditional homemade food and the Craft & Design Shop has a collection of Irish crafts and gifts.
